What will it take for you to actually start making your course sales? Let's talk about the importance of showing up to sell!

When it comes to successfully selling online courses, the most important thing you need to remember is this: you have to show up.

The process of creating a course is only one piece of the puzzle. To see actual sales, you need to step outside your comfort zone and make your presence felt online.

Now, I want to acknowledge that this will vary depending on where you are in your business.

If you already have a solid one-on-one practice and you're looking to transition to selling courses, this message is for you. But if you're just starting out and don't have much of an online presence yet, it can feel overwhelming.

The importance of showing up is especially significant if you don’t have the strong online presence or a massive email list that you can rely on. If you don't have a strong social media following, or your website doesn’t get much traffic yet, showing up consistently is crucial to get noticed and start making sales.

Building an online presence: The missing link

Many of my clients come from the background of a successful one-on-one practice. They are experts in their field and provide valuable solutions, but they struggle with the online aspect of selling courses. They know their material, they know their audience, and they know their products are great - but they're not sure how to get their courses to sell in the online space.

Here's the missing piece: visibility.

If people don’t know who you are or what you're offering, they won’t buy from you. The key to moving from great one-on-one work to successful online courses is creating that strong online presence.

This is where showing up becomes incredibly important. It’s not enough to have a great product; people need to see it, know it, and trust it. They need to recognize you when they come across your content, whether it's your name, website, Instagram, or other platforms. Your visibility builds credibility, and credibility builds trust, which ultimately drives sales.

How to show up and build trust

If you're just starting out, it can feel overwhelming to show up online consistently.

There are so many things to do: social media, email lists, content creation, and more. But don't be discouraged - take it one step at a time, and let’s break it down.

1. Make your online presence visible

First, ask yourself this: if I Googled your name or searched for you on Instagram, what would I find? Does your content clearly explain what you do and what you can offer? Is it easy for someone to understand what your course is about just by looking at your social media or website?

For example, Instagram is a great tool to showcase your expertise, even if you’re not posting every day. It’s not about posting frequency; it’s about providing valuable content that speaks to your audience. Your Instagram profile should act as a portfolio of your knowledge, and your posts should highlight the core areas you cover in your courses.

2. Be active and consistent

Another key element of showing up is consistency. It doesn’t matter if you’re posting every day or once a week - what matters is that you're actively sharing your expertise and staying visible. You don't have to go viral, but you do need to stay present.

For example, Instagram Stories can be a great way to keep your audience engaged. Even if you’re not posting reels or videos regularly, make sure you're using Stories to share updates, insights, or behind-the-scenes looks at your work. This helps your audience see that you’re active and continuously working on providing value.

People buy from those they trust. And the only way to build trust is through engagement. Showing up consistently is part of the equation, but engaging with your audience is what will ultimately turn passive followers into buyers.

3. Offer insight and value

You don’t need to wait until your course is fully built to start sharing value.

Whether it's through blog posts, Instagram, or email newsletters, offering insights related to your course topic can get people interested in what you offer. For example, if you’re teaching a course on time management, share time-saving tips on your Instagram or blog.

When people see that you’re giving away valuable information, they’re more likely to trust that your paid course will provide even more in-depth knowledge.

Overcoming the overwhelm of showing up

I won’t sugarcoat it - showing up online can feel overwhelming. Especially when you’re just starting and there are so many moving parts. But here’s the good news: the more you do it, the easier it gets. As you continue to create content and build your online presence, it will become second nature.

And even if it feels like a lot right now, remember: showing up is the foundation of trust. If you want to successfully sell your online courses, you have to be present in your audience's lives. This doesn’t mean perfecting everything from day one; it just means taking small, consistent steps to build your online visibility and engagement.

Consistency is key to selling courses

Ultimately, the importance of showing up to sell your online course cannot be overstated.

It’s not enough to create a great product; you need to be visible, active, and engaged in order for people to trust you and invest in what you’re offering.

Whether it’s posting on social media, sharing valuable insights, or simply staying consistent, showing up is what builds the trust that drives course sales.

So, if you’re ready to take your business to the next level and start selling your online courses, remember this: you’ve got to show up! The more you do it, the more natural it will feel, and the stronger your course sales will become.
